Pastor D’s Letter May 15th, 2022

Ephesians 1:16-21

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

When I was at the West Coast Presbyterian Pastors Conference (WCPPC) my glasses broke.  I was sitting listening to the speaker who had just begun to teach on Wednesday morning.  I took my glasses off and they snapped in two in my hands.  I left to try to fix them, but that proved impossible.  The Director of Maintenance for Zephyr Point helped me by calling his optometrist and I got an appointment for the next day to get a prescription.  After getting the prescription, I went to “Eye-mart Express” where 28 minutes later I had two pair of glasses (for $38) to replace the one that broke.  It was an answer to my prayer.

At my optometrist appointment I learned that I could see without my glasses well enough to drive.  However, my driver’s license says I must wear them.  I do know I see better (long distance) with them than without them.  Seeing clearly is a good thing.  And I see better at a distance with my glasses.

Today there are many things that grab our attention.  But these “things” can obscure and muddy our vision about what is true.  The Bible depicts clear vision and having your eyes “enlightened”.  It is a great image, the light of God opening our eyes to see clearly.

As you look at the world around us and see all the red in the stock market and wonder about your financial future.  As you see loved ones getting sick with Covid 19 and fear for your own health.  As leaders of both political parties make pronouncements of what is right to do.  Don’t become self-focused in your vision.  Don’t let your vision become muddied by the things that worry us all.  Instead, I pray that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened that you may see God’s great power at work.  And as you see God’s power at work, may be encouraged by remembering God’s will, will be done “on earth as it is in heaven.”

I’m praying you have a clear vision of God’s grace at work in your life.

See you on Sunday if not before,

Dr. D

IN CHRIST ALONE / THE STAND
CCLI # 1340880

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
'Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the World by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
'Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

So I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the One who gave it all.
I'll stand my soul Lord
To You surrendered. All I am is Yours.

MIGHTY TO SAVE
CCLI # 1340880

Everyone needs compassion
Love that’s never failing
Let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
The kindness of a Saviour
The hope of nations

Saviour, He can move the mountains
For my God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

So take me as You find me
All my fears and failures
Fill my life again
I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in
Now I surrender

Saviour, He can move the mountains
For my God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

Shine Your light and
Let the whole world see
We’re singing
For the glory of the risen King
Jesus

Saviour, He can move the mountains
For my God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

Shine Your light and
Let the whole world see
We’re singing
For the glory of the risen King
Jesus

Saviour, He can move the mountains
For my God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
Forever, Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave
