Dr. Darren C. Hawkins


Since 1999 the Rev. Dr. Darren Hawkins has brought God’s word to life through Biblical preaching and teaching at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church. Prior to that Darren pastored at First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, Tennessee and Oakhurst Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Darren has a BA in Psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University, a Masters of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, a Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling from Fuller School of Psychology, and in 2010 Darren received his Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Theology from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Darren has been married to his wife Shelley for over 27 years. They have grown children and two dogs. In his spare time, Darren enjoys watching football, playing golf and spending time with his family.


Brian Claar

Director of Evangelism and Music Ministry

Director of Music Ministries and Evangelism

Brian has been part of the worship services as Director of Music Ministries at Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church since October of 2000. He directs the Praise team, choir, men’s quartet and children’s Christmas musical. Brian plays keyboards, horns and is a vocalist. His stage presence, confidence and comedy are part of the fun in worship. His training is very diverse and comes mainly from years of entertaining on the road as a musician, singer and comedian all over North America. Brian works diligently with Dr. Hawkins to assure that the music helps to deliver the message and add to the worship service experience.

Brian also coordinates all Evangelism outreaches and events for SVPC. These outreaches are fun for everybody to participate in. They include a Christmas Caroling hay ride; free Car washing, free gift wrapping at Christmas, mystery mingles and many more. He also teaches adult Sunday school.

Sally Washum

Administrative Assistant

Sally began working here in 2005. Prior to that she worked at Hand in Hand Christian Preschool for 15 years as a teacher/lead teacher/assistant director. She and her husband Rusty have been married since 1980. They have been members of SVPC since 1994. Rusty and Sally have 2 daughters. Jessica is an ICU nurse at YRMC and Jennifer is a Trauma therapist in Phoenix. They have three beautiful grandsons, Kyle, Rusty and Curtis. Sally has lived in Yuma all her life. She attended Somerton grammer school, Kofa High School and AWC.
